01 CON ● ACTION ● SIX OF DIAMONDS

( Ever since Adalinda arrived here, she's mostly staying out of sight and keeping to herself -- keeping away from people. If anyone attempted to talk to her up to this point or noticed her hovering close to them while they spoke to someone, she'll feign needing to be somewhere else and get the hell out of there before she can be confronted.

Until she gets her bearings and knows she won't lose her cool at the sight of anything/anyone/whatever, she needs to be by herself and think over the events that lead up to this. Because seriously! Wings on her back? This fancy journal machine... thing that seems to be able to contact others after she carefully inspected it? This sure as hell isn't Germany.

She finally comes to the conclusion that this isn't some sort of elaborate scheme hatched out by the Woman or this is some sort of dying dream she's having. Good for her? Bad for her? Who knows. All she's certain of is that there's a lot of places to explore but sticks to the buildings and houses and you know. Signs of life in this place. Seeing how she's possibly the only member in the Doe gang to be here, she can't afford risking the possibility of getting in trouble until her friends arrived to get her. One way or another. )

I suppose I have to make the most out of this until James or Josie get me out of this mess. Hell, I'll take up Jacob's help if it means getting nagged by him. First things first...

( She gives a distasteful look at her new outfit. One thing she cannot abide is being stuck with the clothes she finds herself wearing and careful inspection of the place she woke up this morning reveals no signs of her original outfit.

So rain or not she'll be heading to the Clothing Shop to find something nicer to wear and then check out the Welcome Center after hearing about it here and there. For now she'll duck into buildings or go closer to houses in a subtle attempt to inspect them, scout them out. She's no Point Person but she reckons she can pick up a thing or two from what she may 'accidentally' see or 'overhear'.

That and the rain was annoying to deal with how it made her hair get so matted and tangled and she wanted as much shelter from the weather as possible until she got to her destinations. She has a feeling this place doesn't have her brand of hair products. Great. )

[Because he has a seven year old granddaughter from the future who's running the art club and he himself has nothing against glitter really. But he looks towards her with a smile.]

I'm not that busy. I'm just gonna put up one more here anyway, and I think the rest'll go in different parts of town.

( Having been directed to the location of the grocery by someone at one point, Adalinda wastes no time to see if they had anything that was her favorites. If humans were here it had to mean that strawberries were here too. She'll take almonds if she must. So she enters the store, looks around and what is that right in front of her.

It has an axe and it has a good three feet over her and it is not human and excuse her going to another different direction for the time being. Keeping her casual facade around the thing long enough that she thinks she deserves an Oscar at this point. Presented to her by Clark Gable as he jumps out of a cake in nothing but a speedo. She tries to recollect herself after making sure she's out of its sight. This is her first ever encounter with something truly odd minus that bull that was with Jack and this tops the little fella. Maybe she could keep it as that. Her first and only encounter. Why would you keep a weapon on you?

Still. Adalinda tries to look at it rationally when her dramatics die down. It isn't exactly rampaging in the store. Just eating some bananas. It wouldn't hurt to keep track of this one during its time here to see how it behaves though. See what it could be up to or be capable of. Knowledge is power, an irritating voice says in her mind. With that mind, she goes back to where she saw it to see if it was still around. She had been only gone for three, four minutes tops. Couldn't have left that soon. )

( She catches sight of him out of the corner of her eye and, at first, thinks nothing from it. Just keeps walking a bit further, minding her own business and thoughts. At this point she's seen and talked to a lot of people and gathered enough in her opinion.

For now she's dwelling on what to do and how to approach this scenario when he says his comment. )

( It makes her stop and actually smile for a second. That was genuinely sweet of someone to say. After a day like this and how her hair was starting to become worse for wear thanks to the rain. )

( Wait a second. Did he just compare her hair to a bathroom rug

A bathroom rug.

Look. She gets it. Her hair is a mess right now but no need to rub it in with comparing her hair with something people use to wipe their dirty, sudsy feet with. She keeps a pleasant if puzzled look up, knowing better than to throw a fit here and there. Could it be a mangled attempt to make flattering comparison of her hair to something? )

( His next words confirm her theory. Of a queen. That makes her feel so much better.

Stay calm and carry on, Addie. He meant well. People always do, always fail but at the end of the day they meant well like this guy. He was only complimenting her and it was odd but it could have been worse. Much worse. Why did he have to comment on it being a rug though. She'll need to play it up to make this convincing. )

( She fakes a delighted laugh, waving any imagined offense he might (correctly) think she feels. )

Why! I must say that is a comment I never heard from a cute gentleman before. You're the first to make a most curious connection to my hair to rug of royalty. It certainly got my attention. ( She covers her mouth and fakes a giggle, batting her eyelashes. ) Tell me, my dear.

Do you always say that to the new girls around here as a way to welcome them in?

( Startled a bit by the knocks breaking the relative silence, Adalinda cautiously looks for the source and relaxes to see it's from another person.

Wow, their hair coloring is fantastic. The white and red were just blending together so perfectly. Taking note to one day get close enough to them to ask for tips on how to do hers realistically as theirs, Adalinda waves back and jogs closer to Pascal. )

Bonjour! Nice to see another friendly face here. I'm Addie and it is wonderful to meet you.

( She tries to give a strong handshake too but there's a reason why she was a Honey Trap with Louis and Jade and not a Muscles with James and Josephine. Opting instead for gracefulness over strength, she gives the most elegant handshake she can muster and neatly draws back her own hand and clasps her hands together in a polite fashion. )

Spencer, lovely name. ( Rubbing the back of her neck, she averts her gaze and seems worried about something she wants to ask him. ) Now. About this 'changing up' you said. Are you referring to things that are not... the experiments?

( She has no problem faking a wince because this isn't a fake. She's still trying to wrap her head around the idea yet remains calm and collected, knowing a hotheadedness is not needed right now if she wants more details for this. )

( Familial loyalty is always nice. Not Adalinda's thing thanks to someone but pretty nice.

Thank goodness she didn't actually need to go through with her promise. She's more than happy to stand back and not be a nuisance when he climbs back down after finishing with his task. )

I can wait until then. It's not like I'll be leaving anytime soon from what I've been told by others here.

( Nice to know the first person she sees doesn't seem to find an issue with experiments. She isn't being sarcastic for once, interest quipped at his nonchalant attitude. Has he been here for a long time to the point it got normal? Or are they as dismissive as he believes them to be?

Latter, most likely with how he gave an example. That doesn't sound too bad. The idea of mind control and losing power is uncomfortable for her. Scratch that. It leaves bad taste in her mouth but it could be worse. Long as the other members aren't here to see her being weak; this could be something she can endure. With a little help from the locals. )

So these experiments a nuisance at best and invasive at worst? It sounds like this place is an elaborate and complex versions of a real life Sims game to me if that's the case. ( She runs a hand through her tangled hair, thinking. ) Do they happen often? These experiments? Or is it out of the blue for the fancy of whoever is running this place?

[Jack relaxes slightly, though she called him cute. CUTE! NO one thinks nerds like him are cute!!!!!! And a gentleman to boot? Extraordinary!]

No! No, not at all! Mostly I rob them of all of their valuables. Or. I did. Before. [He peers at her curiously through those thick glasses, which are now fogging up.]

[When one died and came to Luceti as an alternative to an eternity in hell, one that you had personally negotiated yourself, no amount of experiments could shake the feeling of being perfectly at ease with the situation. It was a perspective few in Luceti shared.]

Oh, there's no predicting them, babe. The suits in charge of this place have their own little war going on, so sometimes they gotta put away their toys and let us go be soldiers instead. It cuts into their science time.

[From the nuances in her body language that suggest a mild unease, he had suspected she would ask a different, more sensitive question. One he would have obliged with an answer, still.]

No, just talking about the monthly bullshit they pull on us. The word is that the Malnosso are looking for a way off of this rock as much as most of us are. Except instead of working with us and the sharp minds we have around here, they just use us as guinea pigs, force conscription whenever they need a few more people to deal with their mess, and get their jollies at the same time.

[Don't worry, Saori is pretty spacey about those sorts of things too. She waves dismissively and steps closer, giving the other woman her full attention now. She remembered well how confusing things could be, but she couldn't really sympathize. Those sorts of things had just stopped occurring to her for the most part by now.]

It's no trouble at all. I know it can seem overwhelming at first. But small steps are the best way to start. Just jumping in can be a little overwhelming.

[He's up against the corner of one side of the building, so there's an alleyway sort of behind him that Adalinda could position herself behind.

There was some woman going about her business around him. Whatever. He couldn't care less. Not that he had much to hide really. He continues to write in it, making a grocery list of food he also planned on picking up which, well, let's be honest- consisted of literally everything out of the grocery store. He's not particular about what he eats, as long as there's a lot of it. He thinks carefully not to miss anything, especially his favorite foods.

He'll then switch back to scrolling through the entries again, just to see if he missed anything. Of course he hasn't. It's all horribly useless. He could entertain himself with reading more of the guide, which he still hasn't done yet but he'll get to it eventually.]

It's nice to meetcha too Addie, I'm Pascal!

[Pushing herself up by her hands, Pascal leans out of the window slightly to get a look around. Mm, nothing out of the ordinary. Just rain, lots of rain, and puddles, and water. Yup.]

Whatcha doing out there gettin' all wet and stuff?

So I have dashing swashbuckler in front of me. Never thought I would have the delight to meet someone of from the legends in real life.

( Rob them of their wealth before? Sure. She finds herself doubting that, where this conversation is taking place and the fact there are wings on both of their backs aside. There's only so much Adalinda is going to allow herself to believe and that quota of the day has been filled, thank you. )

Goodness me! I keep forgetting my manners. What am I? An American? My name is Addie. ( She struts closer to him and extends out a hand for him to shake, giving him nothing but a look og good spirits. ) And you? May I have the pleasure of knowing your name?

( Adalinda will sadly have to be not one of those few. Because war. Really. Despite her misgivings with more and more she learns from the man, she thinks to herself it could be worse. John Doe could be here. )

If this is their recruiting method for their soldiers than it must be a hit and miss at times. On one hand they managed to bring you in. You're clearly a man of action and charisma and wit. With how you speak of this, it seems to be a walk of the park for you.

On the other hand they managed to bring me of all people... things... in. I suppose I can scare the enemies with showing them some horrendous pattern swatches.

( Much as she likes delicate questions as the next person when finding themselves in a place with wings on their back and a barcode on their neck, she'll like straight answers too of what else is going down here. It isn't what it is at first glance she's gotten that much. How far is the question now.

Thankfully Spencer provides it for her. She had no idea that there will be fun 'events' that happen monthly. The idea of it makes her skin crawl but she keeps her cool and gives him a grateful smile, glad to learn something new about this place. )

Malnosso. So that's what they're called. ( She places a hand on her chest and breathes deeply, looking up at the man with an apologetic curve to her smile. ) I do feel bad for being so blunt with my question, I could have worded it much more delicately, but this is intriguing to know. Basically they pull people in to find out how to get out while making us both their entertainment and arsenal? ( Geez who does that remind her of. )

No wonder they provide this for us and all for free. I suppose this could be some sort of odd compensation in return.

Do you have any suggestions on how to do that or where one can begin? I would love to hear what others would say on this matter. I'm a little nervous of just, how do you say? Jump with both feet in the water.

( So someone else who has been here for a while from how she spoke. Maybe? Still longer than her, that's for her. It is nice to meet the 'seasoned' people so to speak to see what they know and see what she can take and apply for herself. )

( Oh, she's noticed the rain alright. )

Walking around mostly. It's what I've been doing all day and I think I've exhausted my options on where to go without straying too far from here. ( She shivers visibly, rubbing her arms together and huddling for warmth.

The new clothes she wore were nice but leaned more towards more of form than function. Surprise surprise. It's a bad habit back home, it'll be a bad habit here now. ) Goodness! It's so cold out here to me for some reason. Is the rain always this chilly?

Well, you've found clothing, so I suppose the next step is to find a place to stay, and something to eat. Also, start making friends.

And...[She taps her chin] Find a hobby?

( And into the alleyway she slips into. So far he doesn't seem to detect her and it blusters her bravo. She gets close as she allows herself too, trying to see what he's doing. This is a good distance from him and holy crap she can see what he's doing and what he is doing on the journal is a shock to her. Is he scrolling through messages of some sort?

The concept of social networking is not lost on her. Au contraire. She's the one who introduced it to the gang to the delight of Anna and frustration of Alice. It's just with what she's seen so far, or what she hasn't seen so far, she didn't think there would be a version of 'internet' here. This world is more and more curious. Taking out her journal, she opens it up and briefly fiddles with it to see if she can also access those... ahah. She can. She checks it and tries to be quiet as possible at it too. It'll be kind of hard to explain why she's behind him if he catches on to her.

So many functions and buttons and uses for her to discover but it's never wise to just push on something and hope for the best. Shutting it close -- oh crap that better have not been heard by him -- Adalinda lowers it and tries to move closer to see if he'll respond to the entries and see how it goes. )

( At the mention of the word 'eat' is when her stomach starts to give out a very crass growl in hunger pains. Oh. She hasn't put thought into what she'll need to do for food or shelter. )

I've been told that the clothes here were for free. Will it apply to lodgings and meals? If not I can get to work right away. ( Problem is she isn't really capable of a lot of things that didn't fall under some savory titles. Does anyone need a secretary here? As for hobby. That's a pretty good angle to think about. She knows 'partying' is out of the question. Good impression, Addie. Remember that. ) I'm... fond of the arts and entertainment like movies. I hope that counts.
